July 29- If the under consideration proposal to confer voting rights to Indian citizens comes through NRI Goans living abroad will get voting rights.
The proposal relating to legislate to confer voting rights to citizens of India who have not acquired citizenship of any other country and are living abroad owing to employment, education or otherwise is under the active consideration of the Government of India. Union Minister of Overseas Indian informed Mr Shantaram Naik M.P. in
the Rajya Sabha today.
Minister further informed Mr Naik that it is proposed that such citizens could register their names in the electoral rolls in the constituency of the place shown in their passport, and vote when they are present at the time polls are held.
