Panaji, July 27- Protest by right wing group over paintings in an exhibition by Xavier Research Institute at Porvorim lead to the withdrawal of the paintings from the exhibition today.
Three paintings showing nude Hindu deities were withdrawn from the exhibition following protests by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS).
The controversial paintings are works of art of a Goan painter Dr Jose Pereira.
“We went to the exhibition hall immediately after receiving the complaint. The organizers told us that they have withdrawn the paintings as they don’t want any communal discord in the state,” Police Inspector Devendra Gad told reporters.
HJS, a right wing Hindu organization, earlier had launched a campaign
against painter M F Hussain and Goa-based installation artist Subodh
Kerkar for their artworks.
Chodankar said that they have also written to chief minister Digamber
Kamat, Home Minister Ravi Naik and Director General of Police B S
Bassi about these paintings.
