Give drug nexus case to CBI within 7 days : NSUI

Panaji, July 27 - NSUI today gave deadline of seven days to Goa government to hand over the drug nexus case to central bureau of investigation (CBI). “We have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Digamber Kamat giving him seven days deadline to hand over the case to CBI. If government fails to shift the case, we will intensify the agitation,” said NSUI national delegate Gautam Bhagat while speaking to mediapersons in the city on Tuesday . NSUI - the students wing of Congress has been vehemently demanding CBI inquiry into the police-politician-drug nexus case. They have even started an extensive statewide signature campaign to garner public support in the case. The NSUI state president Sunil Kawthankar who is leading the signature campaign was attacked by unknown assailant on July 23. In a press conference held in the city on Tuesday NSUI alleged that the police did not attend to their call when Kawthankar was attacked. “Sunil was attacked at 7.45 p.m. but police arrived at 10.00 p.m. We had informed police control room immediately after the attack,” said Suni Shetye of NSUI. “We want that CBI should also investigate attack on our chief. We have no faith in goa police who have failed to arrest the assailants,” NSUI leader Nitin Anandache said. NSUI said that they are yet to communicate to their leader Rahul Gandhi about the attack. “We have spoken to NSUI incharge Minaxi Natarajan who has assured all the support in our cause,” he said. The politician-police-drug nexus case came to light after Swedish Model Lucky Farmhouse’s put on Youtube the Video of her Goa based drug peddler boy-friend. Seven policemen were arrested in the case. A senior politicians son’s name has also come up in the case. Sunil Kawthankar chief of the Goa unit of NSUI was also summoned by Crime branch in connection with the case. Both NSUI and state BJP have been pressing for CBI inquiry into the case.
