Panaji, May 25 - Looks like Goa politician's tryst with the foot-in-the-mouth disease simply wont die.
Even as chief minister Digambar Kamat's 'sexist' controversy simply showing no sign of abating, despite his 'clarification', Churchill Alemao is now facing ire from citizenry after, the public works department minister compared Goans to 'squealing pigs' at a recent press conference.
Rural activists from the Villagers Group of Goa (VGG) have now demanded that the former chief minister should resign or apologise for his comments.
The VGG has also initiated a citizens parade with a colorfully dressed pig in the centrestage.
"Since Churchill Alemao called us Goans pigs, he should also tell us, who feeds a pig like this? Does the mega construction company feed this pig? Or does Churchill feed it?" Zarinha da Cunha, VGG spokesperson has said.
The colorfully dressed pig in a pick up van, is a unique symbol of protest against Alemao's derogatory statement.
"Churchill should resign or apologise to this pig. He called of us Goans pigs, didn't he?" Judith Almeida, of the Colva Civic forum, another NGO has demanded. At a media briefing in south Goa last week, Alemao, had said: "Whenever a construction project starts, Goans here start squealing like pigs," Alemao, said even as he endorsing a mega housing project in the Carmona village in south Goa, where nearly 600 luxury residential apartments are being constructed, despite stiff opposition from the locals.
"Goans should not just protest against construction projects for the sake of protesting," Alemao, who had once called Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the 'pall bearer of democracy' said.
