BASTORA VILLAGE IS KNOWN FOR

* First water polo in Goa
* First college in Goa
* First printing press in Goa -
Tipografia Rangel - launched in 1886, this printing press and publishing house —whose imprint marks many books published in Goa during the period—continued in operation till 1994. It was founded by Janin Rangel. Its books are still visible in libraries across the world.

The Bastora village caters to the fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products needs of Mapusa. The small scale Poultry farming industry of Basthora also provides poultry related products to the city.

During the Portuguese regime water polo sport used to be played in the village lake. People from across Goa used to come to Basthora to see and enjoy this one of a kind sports activity. Unfortunately, over the years due to construction activities around the lake this suave sport went into oblivion. Thousand of Ganesh idols from Mapusa and surrounding places are immersed at Bastora after the festive season. Devotees used to face lot of inconvenience due to the marshy land around the immersion point. The panchayat has now tiled the entire place in its beautification drive. This surely has provided a lot of convenience to the devotees.
